Plowshares Institute

United States

In the U.S., Plowshares has:

  • Trained government and community leaders in ten cities* across the country to mediate and equip multi-racial teams to constructively intervene in disputes based on access to jobs, education and housing, and the underlying racial and economic tensions that fuel those disputes. Volunteer community mediation centers were subsequently established in several of these cities to address new or ongoing conflicts.
  • Equipped pastors and lay leaders with skills in conflict transformation and cross cultural communication in order to address issues rangeing from budgets and mission to the ordination of gay and lesbian clergy.
  • Taught courses in conflict transformation in graduate programs such as Duke University, Clinton School of Puiblic Service at the University of Arkansas, and Hartford Seminary.
  • Consulted with, mediated with and trained senior military officers on concerns such as the effect of long deployments on U.S. officers and their families and the development of the peace curricula for the U.S. Navy and Air Force War Colleges.

A few of our U.S. partners:

    • Council for Christian Colleges and Universities/Nagel Institute
