Our hosts and
sponsors, the Cuban Council of Churches and the evangelical Theological
Seminary on Matanzas, reminded us that the church is experiencing a
significant revival in both membership and spirit. This revival dates
from the early 1990s when the Communist party of Cuba allowed its members
to join the church and for church members to join the party. Our hosts
indicate that this opening resulted in more party members joining the
church than church members joining the party. This interchange may have
been one of the factors that contributed to a new recognition of the role
of religion in Cuban society. |
